What are Mailing and Telemarketing Lists?
They are lists of names, addresses and possibly telephone numbers and email addresses, which allow you to target your direct mail campaign at individuals within your profiled marketplace.
What’s the difference between consumer, business and international lists?
Business lists are generally named individuals at companies, at their business address. Consumers are usually at their home address. There are a number of ‘in betweens’, for example Directors at Home and Business Investors. International is any address outside UK, including Eire.
How are they cleaned?
Lists are usually verified by telephone, questionnaire or subscription. List cleaning is important – one popular business database alone has an average of more than 40,000 amendments each week!
How do regulation filters work?
Each list is always run against the master files of TPS, Corporate TPS, FPS and/or MPS before despatch. (For more detail on these see data legislation.) When anyone requests that their name to be suppressed from lists in general, their application is inputted onto the current file and it is this file that is run against your data.
How specific can lists be?
They can be very specific. You can select by type of business, size of company, geographical location, multi-named contacts at multi-positions, Head Office, branch or site, all IT analysis, all Company House data, import/export, fleet sizes, what they buy, how they travel. there are hundreds more data selections that you can make. For consumer lists, it’s fair to say that virtually any selection you may require is available!
Are these lists better than the telephone directory, or other directories?
A properly compiled mailing list is greatly superior to a directory, for many reasons. Firstly, they are supplied in a format that you can use instantly – you won’t need to write out thousands of names and addresses. Secondly, the lists are selectable as described above. Thirdly, they are continually updated. Fourth, the lists have named contacts. And finally, directories and phone books don’t usually give full addresses with postcodes, fax numbers or other invaluable data. Also bear in mind that most directories carry copyright, so copying it may be illegal.
How much will a typical list cost?
Costs vary considerably because there are so many factors and combinations. Typically, a standard business list would be in the region of £125 per 1,000 records, with telephone numbers. The only way to be sure is to tell us who you’re trying to reach and we can give you a cost, usually within a few hours.
Are there minimum orders or volumes?
Our minimum order is usually only 100 records for business lists. There are also some specially compiled lists where a minimum volume of records is necessary. Again, feel free to ask if you only want a small quantity and we’ll do what we can.
What is rental?
Rental means a once-only use of the list for the purpose it was obtained, for example mail once or telephone once. A lease rental gives unlimited usage for a set period: usually one year. Purchase means buying the data outright with no limitations.
Please note that, when a list is rented, the supplier reserves the right to integrate ‘seed’ addresses. These are coded addresses that can be identified back to the mailer so the list owner will know if the data is used more than the contract terms allow.
What about Email addresses?
Email addresses have to be ‘opt in’ i.e. the recipient must have agreed to receive emails. They can be supplied for both business and consumer data. Whist email broadcasting is relatively low cost, care is needed to ensure that the email is not only delivered but also read. Most list owners will carry out the email broadcast as part of the data rental costs.
